Parquet Floor Repairs
Probably the biggest obstacle stopping people from restoring parquet wood flooring is missing blocks or a lot of loose parquet blocks. Most parquet floors are at least a few decades old and a lot of blocks can becoming loose. These can be glued back down using our specialised parquet floor adhesives, that are compatible with old subfloors and old type adhesives. Old parquet floors were laid in hot tar and there is bitumen residue on the underside. We always use bitumen compatible adhesives to make sure that parquet blocks are stuck down for good regardless of their age and what they are laid on.
Another Common scenario, especially if parquet was covered with carpets, is missing parquet sections filled with concrete. We can restore such areas too. The concrete needs to be broken down and adequate self levelling screed applied to provide good surface for filling missing area with parquet. We can source reclaimed parquet blocks and use them to repair your floor and make it match the original blocks.
Parquet Floor Gap Filling
Another problem that many of our clients experience is gaps between parquet blocks. This of course is caused by wood shrinkage over the past decades. This can be fixed, too. Once initial sanding is done, we use wood dust from your floor to make up a floor – specific wood filler using suitable bonding agent.
Once the wood filler is applied, the floor is sanded down again with finer grit sandpaper. The wood filler stays in gaps between parquet blocks leaving the appearance of continuous wooden flooring with no gaps.
This proven method allows us to restore parquet floors to be as they originally were – perfectly flat, gapless and sealed. No other type of floor can provide the same results. Parquet flooring is rock solid and unrivalled when it comes to displaying natural beauty of wood grain. And because it is made of much smaller pieces of wood and it’s always made of hardwood, parquet blocks do not bend or twist over time and stay virtually perfectly flat for decades or even centuries.
