Our Service Journey

Original pine floors have huge potential for restoration and once renovated they can look absolutely beautiful. It is sometimes the case however that a floor needs some repairs to bring it up to standard suitable for re-sanding. Our team of professional traders has all the skills needed to work with your floorboards and make all necessary repairs to restore it.

Pine Floorboard Lifting

Any floorboards that need replacing have to be lifted in a way that would not damage other boards. We use specialised tools to cut boards in place and lift them with little or no damage to preserve as much of original floorboards as possible.

During the floor restoration process floorboards would be lifted for many different reasons. An obvious one is replacing any damaged floorboards. We might also lift boards to allow access underneath the floor to check if there are any piped or cables under areas we work. Another scenario is installing underfloor insulation. When we insulate floors, in most cases we have to lift most or just all floorboards.

Floor Joists Replacement

Another crucial element of suspended pine flooring is floor joists that run underneath the boards. After decades of sitting under the floor it is possible that some sections would need attention.

Just like with the floorboards, we are able to cut out parts of joists that need replacing and install new ones, making sure that they are level with the rest of the flooring structure.

Exposed joists provide unique opportunity to service subfloor area. We can offer clearing up ground area, repairs to sleeper walls, woodworm treatment and more.

Pine Boards Replacement

There are occasions when some boards need to be replaced because of rot or damage. It is our imperative to maintain original character or floors, that is why we always source boards that match existing ones or can be matched with original boards by applying wood dye.

In most cases replacing a few boards is enough to rectify problems and prepare the floor for sanding. However if larger floor area needs replacing, we can source the right amount of boards.

Any repairs are possible. We can cover fireplace hearths, stagger boards, rework floor joist and do pretty much ay other alterations to meet your needs.

Parquet Floor Lifting

The first thing we have to do when working with parquet floors is to lift sections of flooring where it needs repairs or relaying. It needs to be done very carefully and with clear plan how the blocks are going to be reused.

There are a few possible scenarios why a floor needs lifting. The first and obvious one is where there are loose blocks that need refitting. If there is a loose section, we lift the entire affected area and prepare it for laying back down.

Another scenario is when there were room alterations like partition wall removal or fireplace removal. It is quite common to find missing areas of parquet that were filled with concrete just to level it and accommodate for another kind of flooring to be laid on top. In these cases we have to break up the concrete and remove parquet blocks where necessary.

Surface Preparation

Once parquet blocks are lifted, we have to prepare adequate surface to fit them back. Old parquet floors were laid on bitumen. Unfortunately it is impossible to remove bitumen completely, but we can apply a thin layer of self levelling screed to prepare surface for refitting parquet.

Thanks to applying the self levelling compound, the subfloor is free of any loose material or cracks. It also is perfectly smooth for parquet fitting, which is very important as parquet blocks themselves would have residue of bitumen on them.

This procedure needs to be followed for most types of subfloors. To ensure strong adhesion of newly relaid parquet, you need solid concrete surface. Without this, parquet blocks would come off as soon as we started sanding it.

Parquet Floor Fitting

The most crucial part of a parquet repair job is filling missing floor areas with parquet blocks. There are a few things to consider when doing this. Replacement blocks have to be cleared of any dirt or residue of old adhesives. They also need to be of exact same size as original blocks in order to continue original parquet pattern. Once we get to a floor edge, we need to rebuild parquet frame and redo pattern end cuts as well.

The whole process aims to fill missing parquet areas and make the replaced area indistinguishable. Once finished, a person who would see a finished floor would not be able to tell that a repair was made.

Parquet Floor Sanding & Sealing

Core of our services is dust free floor sanding. We use exclusively completely dustless German machinery by Lagler. Mix of years of experience, professional sanding techniques and top of the range sanding machines allows us to achieve excellent results and 100% customer satisfaction.

Sanding parquet floors requires a right approach. Every wood species needs to be treated differently as they ‘act’ differently when sanded. Parquet floor sanding is actually much more demanding compared to floorboard sanding. Because of floor pattern, wood grain is laid in two different directions, so you are sanding with grain and across grain at the same time. That is why correct kind of sandpaper of specific grit needs to be used. Any sanding mistakes or use of wrong kind of abrasives would result in serious marks, which would be very difficult to remove.

Our specialist team will make sure that your pine floor is sanded down the right way from the very start of the job to provide the best finish possible.
